At times my wife seemed prisoner to a large, unstoppable
medical system. Once committed to treatment, her tests and procedures took
on a life of their own, sweeping her along to some invisible and unpredictable
conclusion. Her “blue card” and patient number became her passport to treatment.
This sculpture portrays her “mug shot” during post-infusion hydration.
Those are her actual ports, and that’s her hair imbedded in the cast paper
matting.
